A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court / Mark Twain. — Kyiv : Znannia, 2019. — 382 p. — (American Library).
The novel by Mark Twain (1835—1910) “A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court” is not only a satiric parody for the tales of chivalry but also one of the first belles-lettres descriptions of a voyage in time. The main hero who got accustomed to the comfortable life in America of the XIX century, quite unexpectedly gets into the epoch of the Middle Ages, and what is more, into the Kingdom of the legendary British King Arthur. But the enterprising and inventive Yankee quickly gets adapted to new unusual conditions, and employing his knowledge of science, technology and history he begins to turn on his “charms” — to change the British society as per sample of America of his day. The book is full of irony and makes an unforgettable impression.
Having lost his senses during the fray, the main hero of the novel “A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court” by Mark Twain suddenly finds himself in the epoch of the Middle Ages: superstitious and half-educated people ready to believe in anything without demanding any witnesses, thoughtless wars and enormous precipice between the rights of elite and their subjects... But the enterprising and inventive Yankee quickly adapts himself to the unusual conditions having taken the advantage of the achievements of science and technology of the centuries which had passed after the reign of King Arthur, gains the fame of the sorcerer after moving aside old Merlin and starts changing the society after the model of America of his time.
